What changes from one part of Kent to another

Green Belt in the west
Much of the west of the county is Metropolitan Green Belt. There, national policy keeps an extension in proportion with the original house, so its size is worth settling early.
Weather on the coast
Homes along Kent's north, east and south coasts take wind, rain and salt off the sea. Paving, pointing and drainage are chosen to cope with it.
Historic towns and listed homes
Canterbury, Faversham, Rochester, Deal, Tenterden and Tunbridge Wells all have conservation areas and many listed buildings. Any work that affects the character of a listed home, inside or out, needs listed building consent before it starts.
National Landscapes
The Kent Downs cross the county from west to east and the High Weald reaches in from the south west. In both, planning looks closely at how an extension sits in the countryside.
